Obie Stalcup, M.D. | Urology
Dr. Stalcup is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Texas Medical School in Galveston. After his internship at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital inCooperstown, New York, he completed his residency one urology at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Stalcup is board certified in Urology. He and his wife, Judy, are longtime residents of Lubbock and have four children.

Physician of the Year by Vote of His Fellow Physicians
Named for the father of medicine, the Award of Hippocrates recognizes one individual who possesses the attributes of the compliant physician…the doctor’s doctor.The Award of Hippocrates is given to one physician each year by the Lubbock Crosby Garza County Medical Society whose members vote for fellow doctors and can be given only once to the same person.
Award of Hippocrates guidelines are specific but members are also asked to weigh certain intangibles. This award honors a physician whose work is more important than self and is willing to submit without reservation to the disciplines of the job. It honors caring, generosity and personal attention to patients and is based on the rule that to be a good physician, one must first be a good and kind person.
Dr. Obie Stalcup is all of this and more. Dr. Stalcup’s background in medical education and experience is best described as diverse. He has been an avid student of the physical disciplines that ground his medical practice and continues to investigate new procedures and technologies that help him better his professional craft.
Dr. Stalcup began his journey of medical discovery in 1954 by obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Quantitative Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge. Following a hitch in the US Navy, He obtained his medical degree from University of Texas Medical School, Galveston in 1963. During the course of his medical education Dr. Stalcup spent periods of time at overseas study in alternate disciplines with the Chief of Plastic Surgery at Children’s Hospital in Edinburgh, and Bangour Hospital in Bangour, Scotland; the Chairman of the Department of Head and Neck Surgery, Hamburg, Germany and the Chief of Plastic Surgery for Children’s Hospital in London, England.
Dr. Stalcup did his residency in General Surgery from 1965-67 and his residency in Urology from 1967-70 at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston. He served as Chief of Surgery at St. Mary of the Plains Hospital in 1975, was Chief of Staff at Methodist Hospital in 1984-85, is a Diplomat of the American Board Urology and continues to practice his specialty at Grace Clinic.
